I chose the internet to find myself and my family much needed assistance. Our house has been flooded in Columbus Junction, IA and we have no home or any of our things. All we have is our memories and each other. My husband and I have 3 children (ages 11, 12 and 7). All of us are just so devastated. I believe strongly that my children are depressed.
We did not have any type of house insurance. No security and no savings. My husband was layed off in September of 2007.
My only family lives in NY. We had enough money to fly to NY with the thought that we could stay with my sister and her family. As soon as we got here she changed her mind. She said we could stay only throughout the weekend. My sister and I have never gotten along that much. I was adopted and I guess that plays a part in her resenting me. Our parents passed away in 2001. Over the weekend we found a short term shelter for families. That is where we are now. I did not want to leave Iowa. My kids miss their friends and I am not an east coast person. I want to save up enough money to buy a car and try and get our home back or move to Davenport, IA.
